BioPack's custom SOS bottom tortilla chips paper bag is a square-bottom kraft paper package with side gussets and an optional transparent window. It can be customized with grease-resistant paper, barrier coatings, inner liners, custom printing and different closure methods. Plain paper is mainly suited to fresh or short-distribution products, while tortilla chips requiring longer retail shelf life normally need additional moisture, oxygen and grease protection.
A natural paper look is important for many tortilla chip brands, but appearance alone is not enough. The bag must also resist oil, protect crispness, stand securely during display and fit the actual filling volume.
BioPack's custom SOS bottom tortilla chips brown paper bag with window is developed for tortilla chips, corn chips, nachos, pita chips, popcorn and similar dry snacks. The square bottom gives the bag a stable shape, while the transparent window allows customers to see the color, texture and seasoning of the product inside.
Sizes, paper grades, grease-resistant treatments, window materials, printing and closures can all be adjusted to suit the product and sales channel.
SOS stands for "self-opening sack." Unlike a basic flat paper bag, the SOS structure opens into a rectangular base with two side gussets. This gives the bag more filling space and helps it remain upright on counters and retail shelves.

Available window materials depend on the required barrier and disposal route. Options may include cellulose-based film, PLA-based film or conventional clear film.
The finished material structure must be reviewed before the package is described as recyclable, compostable or plastic-free. The FTC advises that environmental claims should be supported by reliable evidence and qualified where collection or processing facilities are limited.

PFAS-free grease-resistant solutions can be specified for relevant projects and verified according to the target market. In February 2024, the FDA announced that grease-proofing substances containing PFAS were no longer being sold by manufacturers for food-contact use in the United States.
The front, back and side gussets can be printed with brand graphics, flavor identification, ingredients, nutrition information, QR codes and disposal instructions.

Chip volume depends on shape, curl, thickness and seasoning. Selecting a bag only by ounces or grams often results in excessive headspace or an overfilled appearance.
Send actual product samples where possible, or provide the approximate filling volume and chip dimensions.
An oversized window can weaken the front panel and reduce the available print area. Sufficient paper should remain around the window, particularly on larger bags or products packed by hand.
A fold-over top, tin tie and heat-sealed liner require different bag dimensions and top clearances. The closure should be selected before the dieline is prepared.
Cheese powder, chili seasoning and flavored oils may behave differently from plain tortilla chips. Testing should use the final product rather than an unseasoned substitute.
A simple grease-resistant paper bag may work for fresh or fast-moving products. A longer retail cycle normally requires additional moisture and oxygen protection.
Can a paper bag keep tortilla chips crispy?
Paper alone provides limited moisture protection. For short-use applications, grease-resistant paper may be sufficient. For longer retail shelf life, a barrier coating or sealed liner is normally recommended.
Will tortilla chip oil stain the kraft paper?
It can stain untreated paper. The required grease resistance depends on the oil content, seasoning, filling temperature and length of food contact.
Can the bag be recyclable?
Some paper-forward structures may be designed for recycling, but the window, coatings, adhesives and liners must also be considered. Recyclability should be confirmed for the complete packaging structure and the intended market.
Can BioPack make the window compostable?
Cellulose-based or PLA-based window options may be available. A compostable claim should only be made when the complete bag has suitable supporting evidence and all relevant components meet the required standard.
Can the bag be heat sealed?
Yes. A heat-sealable coating or inner liner can be added. Sealing conditions should be tested on the customer's filling equipment before commercial production.
What is the MOQ?
The typical MOQ is approximately 10,000 pieces. It may change according to size, materials, printing method and the number of artwork versions.
