These food safe organic coffee bags are made from compostable material that has a high barrier ALOX coating. The organic coffee packaging bag comes in both KRAFT PAPER and PLA/KRAFT PAPER options to switch up your packaging. Designed to hold items like dry goods, coffee, candy, nut mixes, sprinkles, and even non food items. All stand up organic coffee bags come with a built-in zipper, heat sealable material and high barrier.

High-Barrier Compostable Packaging for Roasted Coffee

Coffee packaging needs to do more than look sustainable.

Freshly roasted coffee is sensitive to oxygen, moisture and external odors, while roasted beans continue to release carbon dioxide after roasting. The packaging structure therefore needs to be selected according to the coffee format, expected shelf life, filling process and distribution conditions.

For this sustainable coffee pouch, BioPack can develop structures using kraft paper, PLA-based compostable films and high-barrier ALOX-coated materials.

For freshly roasted whole beans, a one-way degassing valve can be added to release internal CO₂ while helping limit oxygen exposure. Ground coffee normally requires stronger barrier protection because of its larger exposed surface area.

Before production, we recommend confirming your required shelf life and conducting a filling and sealing test with the final packaging structure.

Are these coffee bags really compostable?

Compostability depends on the selected complete packaging structure. Films, adhesives, zipper, valve and other components should all be considered before making a finished-package compostability claim. Ask BioPack for the documentation applicable to your selected specification.

Can compostable coffee bags keep roasted coffee fresh?

Yes, when an appropriate barrier structure is selected. Coffee freshness depends on oxygen barrier, moisture barrier, sealing quality, valve performance, coffee type, storage conditions and required shelf life.

Do I need a degassing valve for coffee packaging?

A one-way degassing valve is commonly used for freshly roasted coffee because beans continue releasing carbon dioxide after roasting. Whether a valve is necessary depends on your roasting, resting, filling and distribution process.

Can you manufacture custom printed sustainable coffee packaging?

Yes. Size, artwork, material structure, zipper, valve, pouch format and surface finish can be customized according to the project.

Are kraft paper coffee bags automatically compostable?

No. Kraft paper on the outside does not automatically make the entire pouch compostable. The inner barrier film, coating, adhesive, zipper and valve also need to be evaluated.
